International students

We are proud that our undergraduate program at Lancaster attracts students from many different parts of the world. We have long-standing links with Universities in America, Europe and Australasia, and we are increasingly attracting students from Asia. We want to encourage this influx of international students. It improves the intellectual culture of our department and makes it a more interesting place in which to work.

You can read more about our formal links with institutions outside the UK here, which relate to both research enterprises and student exchange / visits. We have many research collaborations that occur at an individual level between staff members too, and we certainly welcome the opportunity to nurture the talents of undergraduate and postgraduate students from around the world. We have staff and students who come from a diverse range of backgrounds and we are keen to maintain this profile.

  • The university has produced an e-prospectus for postgraduate students and you can read, watch, and listen to the university information at this external link. This prospectus includes information about international students and comments from Lancaster international students, although its scope is wider than that. But don't forget to return to our department pages when you're done!
  • We have an international officer in the Department, Martine Turgeon, who can explain the opportunities that our degree programme offers to overseas students.

Martine Turgeon

Martine is the department's International Student Officer ...

"I am responsible for the recruitment and welfare of overseas students for our undergraduate and graduate degrees in Psychology. That includes "study abroad" students (ie students who come to Lancaster as part of a degree programme from elsewhere). Our department has established special relationships with many institutions across the world, from the Far West (e.g., Arcadia University in the US) to the Far East (e.g., Kyoto University in Japan; Sunway University in Malaysia), and closer to home in Europe (e.g., University of Pavia in Italy)."

A message from the International Officer

▼ A friendly face in a friendly department.

Perhaps, coming from abroad, like me, you sometimes struggle a bit to adapt to the British way of life or to understand the colourful North Western accent? In brief, for any query, whether it is on the academic or non-academic front, do not hesitate to come and see me.

Hoping that you will get to know better our Psychology Department, not only known for its academic standing (among the top 10 in the UK!), but by being one of the most friendly departments in the world!

▼ Further Information and Help

The University maintains an international office at Lancaster University that is responsible for the welfare of all the university overseas students (in addition to the support we provide in the department). Their website contains lots of useful information about things like fees, entry requirements, accommodation, language support, and so on.

  • You can find out about the international office here
  • You can read more about the international student advisory service is here.

▼ Student Testimonials

You can read what some of students have said about the department and the campus environment here. We are proud of the level of support provided for all our students, which we think is reflected in what students say about us.
